Georgio Meletiou

Georgio was group Sommelier for Sun International for ten years, based at the Palace Hotel at Sun City where he rubbed shoulders with the likes of Oprah Winfrey, Sir Cliff Richard, Paris Hilton, and Tina Turner, indulging them with his wine expertise. After that, he joined the Tsogo Sun Hotel Group as Western Cape Regional Sommelier. In December 2021, he joined the team at Spier Wine Estate as resident Sommelier and Wine Experience Manager. Georgio has completed his hotel diploma, Cape Wine Academy Diploma, and their Sommeliers qualification and is currently busy with his WSET Level 3. In addition, he is a certified wine taster (Michael Fridjhon Judging Academy) and a freelance wine judge. He is also fluent in five languages: English, Afrikaans, Italian, Greek, and Portuguese.

Samarie Smith

Samarie is a seasoned journalist and professional photographer who made wine the centre-piece of her decade-long career as a lifestyle writer for Die Burger and Media24. She conceptualised their wine supplement Versnit (Blend) and remained the wine, travel, and lifestyle Editor until 2018, when she joined Benguela Cove Wine Estate as Brand and Business Manager until March 2020. As an Art and Journalism graduate, Samarie has completed her Cape Wine Academy diploma, Wine Business Management at UCT Business School, and is a certified taster (Michael Fridjhon Judging Academy). Samarie represented South Africa in the World Blind tasting Championships in France 2014 and has judged various wine competitions. In 2021, she completed the sought after WSET Diploma. She is currently working as a freelance journalist and creative consultant. Otherwise, you will find her in the pottery studio creating functional art, predominantly one of a kind wine receptacles, decanters, pitchers and teapots.
